הייתי בברלין שתי פעמים. בביקורי הראשון ב-96' העיר נראתה כאתר בנייה אחד גדול. הפער בין מזרח למערב היה בולט לעין, אבל בולטים יותר היו האגורנים שהתנשאו מכל עבר. כשחזרתי ב-08' ראיתי עיר אחרת לחלוטין. עיר שחוברה לה יחדיו.
ביום שיש האחרון הייתי במזרח ירושליים, עוד עיר שחוברה לה יחדיו. אחרי 42 שנות חיבור הפער בין המזרח למערב עדיין מדהים. העיר המערבית נראית כמו כל עיר ישראלית אחרת. העיר המזרחית מאוד הפתיע אותי. המראות היו מוכרים מכיוון שהייתי פעמים רבות בחיי בכפרים פלסטינים.
מה שהפתיע היה שאמרו לי שהכפרים האלה הם חלק מעיר הבירה של מדינת ישראל. למי שלא יודע השטח שסופח על ידי מדינת ישראל כמזרח ירושליים היה גדול פי עשר מהעיר מזרח ירושליים. השטח כלל גם כפרים פלסטיניים שסבבו את העיר. מהלך כמו בברלין מעולם לא בוצע והמקום עדיין נראה כמו כל אזור כפרי אחר בגדה.
דבר אחד מאוד בלט לעין – הבניה היהודית במזרח ירושליים. נסו לדמיין לעצמכם בניין מגורים חדש ויוקרתי בנוי באמצע כפר פלסטיני מוזנח. קשה? אני בחיים לא הייתי מצליח. אני גם לא מביא תמונה מפני שהיא לא תעביר את המראות. אני חייב להודות שזה היה הדבר הדוחה ביותר שראיתי אי פעם. פשוט גועל נפש.
